RE1 Freyr

Vanmiddag 28 jaar geleden was ik in Blankenberge live via de radio getuige van de raid op radioschip Ross Revenge van Radio Caroline. Zo'n 53 jaar na haar geboorte heden eindelijk legaal als ex-zeezender.
Maar als radioschip werd het niet vergeten in dit first official year...

 ‘As of June 1st the Ross Revenge has been accepted on to the National Register of Historic Vessels of the UK. The fact of her being German built was outweighed by the clear long term connection she has with Britain both in her Fishing and Broadcasting roles. Obviously there are many famous ships on the register and including the Thames Barge fleet in Maldon and the steam tug Brent also based there. This gives us additional credibility for fund raising, while modest sums can be awarded from the Register itself.’ (Peter Moore from nowadays Caroline organisation brought this news on internet)

De in Duitsland gebouwde trawler uit 1960 was slechts drie jaar actief voor de kust van Reykjavik als de RE1 Freyr  met als IMO 5121213.

Wie had toen in 1989 en nu na al die jaren kunnen inbeelden dat ik net vandaag ronddobber voor gekusten van ... Ijsland! Het huidige bootje wel van een andere soort, de MSC Preziosa ... kijk es aan!
